CHAMBER OF COMMERCE,
MANCHESTER 31st August 1909.
sir,
I am desired by the President to ask that you will be so
good as to refer to the correspondence which took place
between you and this Chamber in September last a copy of
which is enclosed. I am respectfully to inquire that
arrangements have been made by H.M.Post Office for the
permanent continuance of the Tientsin British Post Office?
Information received from the Tientsin Chamber of Commerce
is to the effect that, as the British Municipal Council
guarantee of the deficit expires on the 30th proximo, the
Post Office will be close on that date unless the British
Imperial Authorities intervene.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
(Sd.) Walter Speakman.
Secretary.
The Rt. Hon. Sydney Puxton, M.P.,
H.M. Postmaster General,
London.
